"Living Close to God When You're not Good at it," the title alone speaks volumes to me. I mean really, who honestly can say they are good at living close to God? We all fall short. And some of us have a difficult time getting to a place where we consistently live a life for God. Gene Edwards is one of my favorite authors and he has written this book for adults looking for more then just a daily devotion. For me, this book is a look inside of Gene Edwards thoughts. He takes us on a journey of how he found a way to draw nearer to Christ daily, yet admits he is not always good at it. One of my favorite parts is where he tells the reader to really take 1 line at a time and consider what he writes while praying. There are also questions at the end of the book which can easily be used in a group study, or just for personal thought. After the questions there is a guide for your personal walk, leading you to a deeper relationship with God (hopefully).

Some of the chapters were a little slow, NOT because of the content. I hope I can explain. It's as if the author has written down his thoughts, desperately wanting us, the reader, to have the same level of excitement to the enlightenment he encountered. The problem with that is not all of us think the same way he does, nor will we have the same experience with the living God. It reminds me of me trying to explain things to people. If you don't get me or agree with me, you won't necessarily be excited about what I have to tell you, or maybe you just won't understand. That's the problem. Gene Edwards has MUCH to offer in this book The point I believe he is trying to make is that we ALL CAN live close to God. But it takes more then just reading a daily devotion, a book or going to church 1 day a week. This book can help. Don't give up on reading it. Ask God to show you what He wants you to gain from this book. Try some of the things the author did, I don't believe you will be disappointed!
