The book begins on the premise that everyone has things they value, and in a world where money and progress often appears to be the core of our existence the hard facts must be faced. Beneath all the desire to gain and store up, is the heart felt passion for relationships, that we were designed to have and live out. God created us to connect first with Him, but also each other. Long before He established the nation of Israel, the temple, or even the church, He designed the family. Thus, the apparent notion is that a nation dedicated to God, a worship center, or a movement is only as good and effective in their purposes as the families that make them up are. Andy Stanley does a phenomenal job at expressing that one must come to terms that their job is not their priority, and that their family is. One must practice habits that prove such as well. Jesus closed the Sermon on the Mount with a capstone statement that said anyone who follows his pointers would be a wise man, like one that built a house on a solid foundation. Obviously the house reference brings to mind the family, and the idea that families are based on practice, not on statements. "Where Work and Family Collide" does a great job at providing strategies to help men and women transform their lifestyles to make their home environments what God intended them to be!
