Every now and then you read a book that leaves you with mixed feelings. You don't know what to make of it. I hate it--but Fierce Beauty fits into this category for me.
There is a lot of good to be found. I especially love some of the anecdotes that Ms. Meeker shares--those that relate to people whose lives she has played a part in or the animal tales. It is always wonderful when the Lord can use simple things to bring home major points. Ms. Meeker is also a very vivid writer. She made the Pacific Northwest alive--something this girl who is in that region appreciates.
But the downside is when Ms. Meeker gives stories from her own life. A few are really good--like the ones about her childhood. But others, it can give the appearance as if she is tooting her own horn. Those ones can be majorly tedious. =(
It's a good read, but nothing new, nothing I haven't read before. So will certain tidbits stand out to me? That remains to be seen.
