Focus on the eternal during tough times

Life doesn’t always go as planned and as Kay Arthur acknowledges in “As Silver Refined”, we will face disappointments along the way. As Christians, we are tested throughout our lives and often do not know why. It could be to show how far we’ve come in our Christian faith and our walk with God. It could be for reasons we simply won’t know in this life.

The most important part of these trials is how we respond to them. Reacting in a godly fashion to trials can be a ministry to others. Throughout the book, Arthur offers biblical suggestions for responding to failure, regrets, and stresses. In our response, we’re to submit to God and what He allows in our lives even when we don’t understand why something is happening. The bottom line is that He is God and we are not. If we respond by rebelling or looking outside of His will, we open the door for Satan.

We can get through our trials by spending more time focusing on God rather than our circumstances. When we live in light of eternity, we know that nothing matters but our relationship with Him and our trials are only temporary. We’re to put our hope in the future, not this life. The study guide included with the book helps the reader face disappointments, learn meekness, believe God’s sovereignty, and find courage, joy, and hope. This book is a valuable resource for independent or group study.
