As Silver Refined: Answers to Life's Disappointments by Kay Arthur is an interesting read that takes you through the refining process helping the reader realize that often times our disappointments are actually His Appointments...occurences that happen for a reason to test, try, change, strengthen, and purify us. She covers the deadly "Ds": "disappointment, discouragement, dejection, despair and demoralization.....the downward spiral of deepening defeat and disorder" and writes and tells stories as if you are right there with her.

I like how she has the book divided into chapters that could probably stand on their own, if someone was looking for encouragement on a particular topic. I also like that there is an extensive study guide for personal or group use included in the paperback copy.

One part of the book that stood out to me, and that I personally try to be mindful of, is that whatever you are going through, people are watching and that you're not always going through something for your own purpose but also to show the world that you really believe in the sufficiency of grace....the refining process. "It" might not look pretty in the beginning and may not be fun during the process, but it's for a reason and through trial and testing, can be beautiful in the end.
