This is the first book I've read by this author, and I'm lining up another book. I almost stopped at the beginning to read the other three books, but told myself 'No keep going.' For me a good book can carry itself, even if it's part of a series it should have enough back story that a new reader can somewhat catch on to what's evolving. I really liked it, and can't wait to read the others. I loved that Mona built a female character that could stand on her own, sometimes a dependent character looses my interest. I also really loved the play on her conscious, and the build of Cripple Creek. It felt like a real everyday place, and not just some make believe place the author slapped together for the sake of her characters. You can really feel the love and thought Mona put into these books. She shows that love shines, and shines all the more brightly for those who can't see it clearly.
