Without a doubt, this has proven to be one of the best books I've read. Of course, Piper is a classic communicator with much to look up to. I don't know that a complete review, per se, is needed for such a foundational work. Individuals far wiser than I have done a greater job summarizing and commenting on this important work.

Yet I would summarize my thoughts in three key ways:

Yes, the book is deep - it'll take time to fully grasp all it has to offer. Don't force yourself to rush through it. This is best served with a good cup of coffee and without a clock in sight.

Yes, the concepts are challenging - your mind will be stretched. But allow yourself to fully soak in the text and I'm convinced you will be inspired to live a better life and one with greater purpose.

Yes, you will want to come back to - this isn't a read-once-and-shelve-it kind of book. I think I burned through at least a full highlighter and have plenty to come back and enjoy ruminating on later. You'd do well to look at this the same way.

As Piper comments and elaborates on, The chief end of man is to glorify God by enjoying Him forever. This isn't just a pithy phrase. This is one that will challenge you and will last long. After all, a book doesn't stick around for 25 years and multiple printings just by being clever.
