Be Still My Soul is Joanne Bischof's first novel and the first in what will be The Cadence of Grace series. As the almost 18-year-old Lonnie Sawyer's story begins, she is living at home with an unloving father who eventually forces her to marry Gideon O'Riley, who she barely knew. Lonnie is not very welcomed into the O'Riley family, so the newlyweds head out on their own with very little. Their journey toward independence is hindered by many physical and emotional obstacles, but Lonnie's faith never wavers. As she learned from a beloved aunt at a very young age, she turns to God and to the book of Psalms when the going gets tough. Gideon learns many lessons along the way about how to be a husband to Lonnie and an obedient child of God.

This sweet story is a wonderful reminder of grace. With God's grace, we don't deserve the wonderful things we get and with God's mercy, we don't get what we often deserve.

I would recommend this book and I look forward to the next book in this series.

I received this book for free from Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.
